What is DKIM?
DKIM is an email authentication tool that allows a receiving mail server to check whether incoming mail is authentic for the sender's domain. In addition, DKIM adds a cryptographic signature to each outgoing email. This allows the receiving server to verify and accept the e-mail sent.
An error is reported in scenarios where the receiving mail server is unable to detect that the DKIM signature is invalid, outdated or missing from the domain's public DNS records.
What is a 550 DKIM verification error?
A 550 DKIM verification error is reported when an external DKIM validation service reports that the DKIM is not valid because the public key is not available after the DNS lookup.
The error also occurs when the public DKIM key does not match the private key of the sender's mail server. Whatever the reason for the error, our support technicians are there for an easy resolution.
What causes the 550 DKIM verification error?
This error may occur for one of the following reasons:
- The DNS service is not configured accurately.
- The email domain name is non-existent.
- DKIM-related DNS resource records are broken or have been deleted.
How to resolve the 550 DKIM verification error?
- First of all, make sure that the real domain name is used to send an e-mail.
- Then the domain should be globally resolved to a correct IP address. If a different IP address is found in the global DNS lookup, change the DNS settings in the domain.
- Then check that all DNS resource records related to DKIM are in the domain zone.
- After that, deactivate and activate mail signing via DKIM in cPanel.
- Then wait patiently during the DNS propagation period. Changes are loaded, applied and synchronised by DNS during this period. This can take up to 48 hours.
- Finally, check the DKIM configuration of the sending server at this link .
